Please read and fill-out forms for the parent meeting

Welcome to the Green Valley Gator Swim Team! I'm Sabrina, Swim Team Director. I've been in this role for a few years but continue to learn something new every season. Just when we thought our challenges were over, Covid happened. So, that being said, we are going forward with a modified, Covid-driven season. If you have not signed our COVID waiver, we will need you to fill that out and submit it. All GVRC members should have signed it. We will do our best to provide a safe area and have made plans for social distancing, but ultimately, we do ask parents to help their own kids keep appropriate distance from other kids (i.e. no hugging and hanging on each other). Please try to sit by family at meets. We will have markers as visual reminders for social distancing during practices and meets which we expect will especially help the younger kids. Masks are not required. One way entry into the building and leaving the building will be required. Virtual meets are the only option at this time. Each practice time will be split into rotating groups/stations. It is our hope that despite these limitations, we can still have a wonderful season! Meets: Although we will try to make this season as normal as possible, things will look a little different this year as we try to follow state orders. Our meets will be at our home pool without a visiting team. Times will still be recorded and entered into the event software. So, we will still be competing with a few teams, but it will be virtual. One meet will be held each week, starting the week of June 22, for a total of 4 to 5 meets. We are finalizing the dates of the meets, but they will still be either Tuesday or Thursday evenings. We might, at the end of the season, try a meet with a visiting team if restrictions are lifted. Obviously, we cannot promise anything. All ribbons will be in house and given once we receive the results. Sadly, we will be not holding a Championship meet with other teams this year as some pools will not even be allowing swim team participation this year. We do, however, promise loads of fun! Coaches: We welcome Lindsay and Kati, who are returning this year as coaches, and welcome Zoe as our new assistant. Since we are setting a new record with the number of swimmers this year, we are looking to hire at least one more assistant coach to fill in when necessary. We also will have junior coaches, aka coaches in training, assisting with practices and meets.

Parent Volunteers: We will need our parent volunteers to assist us as well! Every meet is based on parent involvement. A meet cannot run without parents as timers, stroke and turn judges, place judges, announcers, awards, concessions, set up/breakdowns, etc. We hope that many will step up and try to learn new volunteer functions. This is our conditioning and learning year not only for the swimmers but for our volunteers as well. We ask parents/family to sign up for 3 meets. A signup list will be available by the week of the first meet. In order to ensure that volunteer slots are filled for meets, there will be a deposit of $100 required. The volunteer fee of $100 will be returned if you fulfill the volunteer obligation. If you fulfill your obligation, we will either return your volunteer check or shred it for you. If you know you're not going to volunteer, feel free to hand us a check and say cash it now! (Ha!Ha!) This way we can hire some workers to fill the slots that you would otherwise be helping with. Tracy Robinette is our volunteer coordinator and will be collecting the deposits and following up with families that have not signed up to volunteer. Explanations of the meet jobs are posted in on the website. We are going to be a little more lenient on stroke/turn DQs this year. Anyone that hasn't been a stroke/turn judge or starter/referee, now is your chance to try it! The USA swimming stroke and turn videos will be sent out again as well as posted on our website. A team can never have too many volunteers! Practices: First practice begins June 10th. Abby Wolf and Megan Procuniar will be available to assist and answer swim team questions during practice times. Practices are not mandatory. We are a summer league, so that goes with the territory. The plan is to assign the kids to groups and report to different stations, such as dry land, deepend, and lanes. It's our priority to have groups and stations as we attempt to do our best to implement social distancing. Practice times are as follows. you may see some changes within the first two weeks as we begin on Wed, June 10. Practices are Monday thru Friday. 8 am - 9 am - 13 and up 8:45 - 9:45 am - 11-12 9:30 - 10:15 am - 8 - 10 10- 10:45 am - 7 and under We ask for patience for these first couple of weeks. Due to the uncertainty surrounding Covid and pool openings, our coaches have some schedule conflicts the first few weeks. You may see other coaches stepping up to help fill in gaps for a few days. Also, during the first few days the coaches will be evaluating the swimmers and recommending practice groups. Please do not be offended if they recommend swim lessons to children who cannot swim. They are using their best judgement to determine who can make it down the lane and the level of swimming skills they have. Until we see everyone's skill level, we cannot really know how many kids will be in each practice session. We will have 4 different practice sessions for each age and skill level. If you have more than one swimmer, we can put siblings together. Again, please be patient and we will get there! Please read and sign the Lindsay Law (Sudden Cardiac Arrest )form that is attached and return it to us tonight. Also see information on Concussion Awareness attached. Please complete the Covid waiver by clicking the link. Fundraising: Each family should donate one case of water and one case of pop/gatorade. These can be dropped off any time at the garage. You can email [email protected] when you drop it off so we can mark it down. We'd appreciate it to be dropped off next week as well. We'll use this to hydrate our workers during meets and sell the beverages as a fundraiser. Unfortunately, we will not have Gator Grill like we used to, but Jess Toft, our Gator Grill manager is stocking up on pre-packaged foods. Yes, I know everyone is disappointed that we won't have grilled burgers, hot dogs, and walking tacos, but we will do what we can. Hopefully, Kona Ice will come back out this year! The proceeds from the concessions go towards purchasing swim team equipment. Apparel Dina Thurman will be posting the link for our swim team apparel via Tuffy Brooks. You will have an opportunity to order directly from them. The logo and quote will be the same as last year. Although we have a suggested team suit, team suits are not required. However, a sport-style suit is recommended. Many kids enjoy having at least a green suit for meets. Anthem Any musicians, singers, that want to start our games with the National Anthem, please let me now. We have had some wonderful performances in the past and want to continue this tradition. Swim Team Fees GVRC members $70 1st child/$60 2nd & 3rd child/ $55 4th or more child GVRC non members $95 1st child/ $85 2nd & 3rd child/$70 4th or more child Swim Team Fees are payable by check to GVRC Swim Team. Team fees and volunteer checks need to be paid by the end of next week, June 19. Each new swimmer will receive a latex swim cap. Silicone caps are available for $10. If your returning swimmer needs another cap, they can buy one. Latex $5, Silicone $10. Questions: We hope to see you at the parent meeting tonight to answer any questions that you might have. Throughout the season, if you have concerns, please email me or you can speak with one of the Swim Team Committee members. I would ask if you have any concerns with the coaches or the format of practice, those be addressed by me. I do not expect anyone to approach the coaches directly unless an immediate concern needs to be addressed. I can be emailed at [email protected] and will handle concerns discreetly. Well the heat is certainly here and it's time to start the race! Let the games begin tomorrow! ...and most importantly, GO GATORS!
